Understanding The Monsoons
Because Sri Lanka is affected by two distinct monsoon weather systems, rain on one coast means sunshine on the other. You can enjoy ideal beach conditions regardless of what month you travel.
Best Time: Dec to April
Brings rains to the southwest (Colombo, Galle, Bentota) from May to September. During this period, the southwestern seas can be rough, making December to April the ideal beach season here.
Best Time: May to Sept
Brings rains to the northern and eastern regions from October to January. From May to September, this region experiences bright sunshine, making Trincomalee and Arugam Bay summer favorites.
Microclimates
Sri Lanka packs incredible geographic diversity into a compact island. Experience tropical beaches, misty rainforests, and cool tea plantations all within hours of each other.
